Understanding Self-leadership

Feels like self-talk for sure for me when I bring awareness to the parts and talk to each of them. This is the checking in to ensure the parts internally concur on what’s to come in the next moment. It feels like we need to take a specific path, per Dr Richard Schwartz in the book “No Bad parts”.

We try to ensure the trust building with the parts to take on that path. The crucial part is to embark on the path. That conversation continues throughout while we journey through the path. This check in to ensure we address the fear. So as to not push it under the rug. This helps the self embolden the parts to continue on the path the self has embarked on.

The self continues to have this conversation with its internal parts. This is as if in first person. The focus is placed on taking this path in first person experiencing the various aspects of the path. This experience in itself is bringing conscious awareness to the self in a very empowering way.

Understanding their fears is what helps the build the trust with the parts. Along with reassuring them that the self would not be too long in the path without the parts. This, put together, enables the parts to know they slowly allow the self to take on the path with the reassurance and confidence built. This is similar to talking to a child. Letting them know I won’t be too long. Assuring them that I will be back soon. Keeping the energy experienced in context with this path being journeyed by the self. This is what I understand as Self-leadership exercise of “Path” by Dr Richard Schwartz in “No Bad Parts”.
