Four Step Self Treatment method

As per Dr Jeffrey Schwartz, in his book, “Brain Lock”, he outlines a 4 step self-treatment method to consciously review one’s thoughts as a mindful observer to relabel.
Then trying to reattribute one’s thoughts as part of their medical condition of OCD to separate themselves as a person away from their condition at hand.
Then trying to refocus on healthy behaviors that they can mindfully engage in to steer away from the intrusive thoughts.
Finally, revalue the intrusive thoughts as less valuable and unhealthy to move away from effectively.
These steps help mindfully change behaviors that seem to be unhealthy. This approach seems to have many influences from the harm reduction model, CBT as well as the surfing the urge DBT strategies from my understanding. These seem close to understanding how to mindfully disengage and reengage in healthy behaviors to effectively manage our intrusive thoughts and pause mindfully before engaging in that unhealthy behavior.
