When the empathy misses we encounter throughout the day become more apparent to us that’s when we slowly understand what it is to making meaningful connection with our loved ones is what I learned from Brene Brown’s book, “Atlas of the heart”. This is a great indicator of how it’s possible to connect with someone even when we have not experienced them ourselves. That’s the true symbol of empathy as my clinical supervisor Gayle pointed out and so is reiterated by Brene Brown in this book. Meaningful connection is the key to understanding the interconnectedness around us. Building the strength in the relationship is through using this important compassion skill. When we don’t distance ourselves from the emotion arising in the story of the person sharing it, we become more closer to them emotionally. Forging this connection is what builds the attachment. Reinforcing this skill is utmost important when we move around through our lives. Breaking barriers in communication through this essential compassion skill of empathy stands out to me today in order to reflect and restore the innate humanity in me. Here’s to learning the building blocks of emotional experiences!
